19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

The win also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, took control to force a final set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
